About Karlan Tucker Karlan started in the insurance industry when he was 22, over 35 years ago. At the time, he was selling Long Term Care and struggling to make a living from that in Mesa, Arizona, also known as “Leisure World.” Karlan experimented with direct mail marketing and other methods to try and get in front of seniors there, and eventually found success selling 45 Long Term Care policies a month. In October of 2000, “Senior Market Magazine” dubbed him the “King of Care” for his success in the LTC market. However, around that time something happened that dramatically altered Karlan’s practice. Dave Noble, the founder of American Equity, met Karlan and told Karlan about his new Equity Indexed Annuity, which at that time was called the Index 1. Karlan loved the concept and when he sold his first $100,000 policy and made 15% Street level commission, he told his wife Angela that he could never afford to sell LTC again (someone else in his office could do it). His average sale with LTC netted him $1,500 – but after one annuity sale he made $15,000 and never looked back.
Karlan has sold over $250 million in FIA, Life and Managed Money since that time. He’s started over 5 companies, been a keynote speaker at major events such as MDRT, Life Insurance Magazine Expo, and Insurance News Net Expo. He’s qualified for MDRT’s Top of the Table 7 times and he’s been a part of American Equity’s Chairman’s club 10 times. He’s completed over 1,000 seminars, has over 2,000 personal clients and conducted over 5,000 interviews with age 50 and older prospects. It's why industry experts such as Brian Tracy, co-author with Karlan of the book “Success in the New Economy” (spring 2018), have commended Karlan for his sharing everything he knows with advisors who work with him.
